This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. Ann Arbor Residents Directory is privately operated. We cannot obtain records, certify copies, verify occupancy at an address, or remove information from a government roll or database. Direct those requests to the office that holds the record. For emergencies, dial 911. If you are being stalked or harassed, contact local police.
Where to Start for a Record
These links point to the most common Ann Arbor records questions:
- Ownership or an address-based question: use the Ann Arbor street directory
- Historic directory entries or past households: consult the Ann Arbor city directory collections
- Researching or corroborating one person: begin with the Ann Arbor resident lookup
- Which office keeps a source: see the Ann Arbor resident records offices
- City records not online: send a written request to the appropriate custodian under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 et seq.
Ann Arbor City Clerk and FOIA Coordinator: City Hall, second floor, 301 E. Huron St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Phone: 734-794-6140. Email: CityClerk@a2gov.org.
For a city-held record, label the written request “FOIA Request,” describe the record well enough to locate it, and include your name, address, and contact information. The City Clerk accepts requests by email, mail, in person, or fax at 734-994-8296. The city generally responds within five business days and may use a ten-business-day extension; police records follow a separate Police Records route.
